Study: Virtual
Learning Portal Project |
The
Task
|
The Department
of Labor identified a need to partner with other organizations in higher
education and to leverage these partnerships to promote their site and share
their data sets.
|
The
Client
|
The U.S. Department
of Labor, America's Learning eXchange (ALX) is a national online college
course catalog resource for students and people interested in continuing
education.
|
The
Situation
|
ALX
wanted to help the Lexington Group of Virtual Universities (now known as
American Council of Virtual Education [ACVE]) develop their own course offering
portal containing only online course offerings.
|
The
Action
|
Working along
side the fledgling ACVE organization, we helped determine their goals and
created a prototype web portal modeled after the ALX data structure to facilitate
exchange of data. A working prototype web site with database was constructed
and members' offerings were being populated into the database.
|
The
Results
|
| The ACVE web
site and database was set up for serving their members' needs while being
directly compatible with exchanging data with the ALX database. |
